For drivers wishing to invest in a sporty vehicle, FIAT has launched some exciting new models for 2017, especially the FIAT 124 Spider. Its gorgeous lines and sleek performance give the FIAT 124 Spider a sports car feel and handling, while not compromising fuel efficiency. The FIAT 124 Spider comes in 3 trims. We'll be comparing the Classica and Lusso. All of these models have great factory-installed features which make it a great choice for anyone looking for a sporty vehicle that won't break the bank.

Performance

The Fiat 124 Spider Classica is the most basic of the three options. This does not mean that it doesn't have great features, though. It comes with an independent front and rear suspension system, standard six speed manual transmission (there is an option for automatic transmission, if available). Both the FIAT 124 Spider Classica and Lusso are equipped with a 4-cylinder engine that puts out a powerful 160 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque.

The FIAT 124 Spider Lusso also comes equipped with a six speed manual transmission with options for automatic transmissions available and a 1.4L turbo engine. Its highly responsive engine with 16 valves, this alone makes it the most powerful engine in its class, according to FIAT USA Website. The FIAT 124 Spider Lusso also comes equipped with an electronic power assist steering system, which gives precise steering control, optimized to the driver's habits; the Lusso also has rain sensing wipers and back up camera as standard items. Both models have a low center of gravity and an even weight distribution, which helps the Spider hug the roads and curves ahead. Both are also equipped with independent suspension systems. It has a double wishbone front suspension and a multi-link rear suspension, which improves both the control and stability.

Appearance

Both models feature a manual soft top and aluminum wheels. The wheels are one inch bigger in the Lusso version than the Classica. The car has two hood bubbles on both models, which is a design throwback to an earlier Spider model. The interior has a wonderful vintage feel to it, due in part to large instrument panels, leather steering wheel, and leather gear shift, but it sports chrome accents that bring the FIAT 124 Spider into the 21st century. The lines of the vehicle also resemble a vintage Spider, but the vintage vibe to the car is seamlessly blended with cutting edge safety technology.

Features

Both the Classica and Lusso models come equipped with daytime running lights, tire pressure monitoring systems, and an emergency braking assist, along with a list of other safety features. The Lusso, however, has a few features that the Classica does not have as standard features. The Lusso comes with rain-sensing wipers and a back-up camera. The Classica does not have these features on the standard model, but the back-up camera is an available option.

Either of these cars will be an excellent option for someone looking for an affordable roadster. The Spider will hug the road and manual transmission gives the driver full control over the driving experience. However, for those who prefer to sit back and enjoy the ride, automatic transmissions are available. Both models have excellent standard safety equipment. The FIAT 124 Spider Classica and Lusso models have virtually identical performance standards. In short, for those looking for an affordable roadster, either the FIAT 124 Spider Lusso or the Classica are excellent choices.
